FESTIVALS IN KILKENNY

Kilkenny city is alive with festivals throughout the year offering everything from walking festivals, food festivals, art, comedy, fashion and so much more – below is just a taster of all that you can experience when travelling to Kilkenny!

Kilkenny's 17th Roots Festival

2nd – 5th May

Kilkenny will be holding the 17th  Roots festival this May. With 80 shows taken place this year and 60 of these being free performances, Kilkenny has once again put together a music trail throughout the city like another. This year the festival will host a mix of Irish and International acts from USA, Canada and the UK. For those of you who have not been to the Roots Festival before you will witness a vibrant city filled with music and fun.

Kilkenny Arts Festival

8th to 17th of August

This year hosts the 41st Year of the Kilkenny Arts Festival. The Arts Festival is committed to the presentation of a unique, distinctive and inspiring program is a in a range of artistic disciplines to as wide an audience as possible. The festival takes place every year for 10 days in August. With 23,000 visitors visiting the festival annually they witness artistic entertainment for all. Kilkenny Heritage Week

17th to the 25th of August

Kilkenny celebrates Heritage Week with an assortment of fun and entertaining events happening in the city and county for the festival. There are many events in which you can take part in and also offers family friendly options from walking tours of Kilkenny’s history, researching your family tree, take part in archaeology workshops or become a wild life detective for the day. There are over 60 different events happening in the city and country so this is a must for heritage and history buffs!

Kilkenny Cats Laugh

May 30th – June 2nd

This year brings us the 20th anniversary of Kilkenny ‘s comedy festival “The Cats Laugh”.  The festival takes place the June bank holiday weekend and is known to be one of the most entertaining weeks of the year. You will see the small cobbled streets of Kilkenny filled with smiles and laughter. If you are looking for an internationally acclaimed comedian or an up and coming star you are sure to find them in one of the many venues Kilkenny has to offer. You will see the very best of Irish and International talent and there is something to suit all ages and humor . 26th & 27th October

7th to the 10th November

This is a very different festival surrounding economics but removing all of the mystery and adding in some laughter with top economists & entertainers making an appearance to what is usually a sell out event.
